The Battle of Vellandruchar

At the battle of Vellandruchar, Arthur and nine other kings marched to Land's End from Tintagel to defeat the Danes. Not one of the Danes survived the battle.

"So great was the slaughter that the mill wheel that gave its name to the battle was turned by the river of blood...Thus perished the army of Danes who landed upon our western shores..."

(vellan = mill; druchar = wheel).

After the battle, King Arthur and the Nine Kings gave thanks for their victory at Sennen chapel, and gave pledges to one another in holy water from St. Sennen's Well. Then they all dined upon the Table Maen (Table Men) on Bossiney Mound. Merlin prophesized that when the Danes returned to Cornwall, another great battle would take place at Vellandruchar, followed by Doomsday.

"And o'er the mill wheel roll a floodOf Danish mix'd with Cornish blood."
